Congratulations! You've become the proud owner of your first home. First homes are usually smaller and, possibly, older than your dream home because most people are on a budget when first starting out (no pun intended). A first home is referred to as a starter home because you may only live there for 5 to 7 years and then use the proceeds from the sale of that house to buy a larger and newer home.
Unless a major life change occurs (such as losing a job, having more children than you have space for, a relative must move in, someone incurs overwhelming medical bills, you lose your home through a foreclosure, etc.), you'll wind up living here for 10 years or more.
In any case, after finally being set free from the bird's nest and flying on your own (uh, um... ya know, graduating from college, finally making some "real" money, and out of your parents' house), it may dawn on you that mommy and daddy haven't taught you how to decorate a house.
Well, worry not darling. Deirdrie LoVerso (a former first-time home buyer, Realtor, and college student of New York School of Interior Design, in Manhattan's famous upper-east side) will quickly teach you how to decorate each and every room in your new home.
You will learn how to fully decorate if you're on a budget or ready to splurge. Deirdrie will lead you by the hand and help you fill each room with furniture, paint, and accessories so you won't have to hire an Interior Decorator or nag your mom or best friend to tag along while you shop (but don't feel bad if you decide to bring them along for moral support). Feel free to use that as an excuse if they wonder why you can't pick out your own colors and accent pieces.
